The first hull on the Yorck is a bit of a pain though, like all ships, you might want to skip it for the second. At least the Yorck is worth a try and if you are not satisfied with it, then skip and sell it for the Hipper. The Hipper is a better ship but it faces tougher competition. I think its a great cruiser out there but after the buffs, its worth playing and even keeping. These five factors make it dangerous for DDs. Great torpedo armament, 12 tubes all, six in each side with wide arcs. HE shells have a fast flight and flat arc, AP shells however, are slow flying and archy. Good firing rate for a heavy cruisers at 5 rounds a minute. Your torpedoes remain as before, short ranged, not all that deadly, but dependable damage.Ī word of warning tho: fear the Atago, it will kill you with 8-12k HE salvos if you let it get close. Don't rush unless its a BB with 0 support under 8ish km. All in all its a very solid fire support ship with meh AA and awesome sonar that gets valuable in mid-late game but can struggle in the high ship count early game.

Its turret traverse is a little lacking but with expert marksman you won't out turn your turrets to often. It is also respectably armored and maneuverable so surviving, especially at range (of which it has a great 17km) is easy. The vaporize cruisers that broadside you if you can hit them with the lousy shell speed (do note HE vs AP speed is very different) The 5+ km hydroacoustic search combined with the great HE makes it great my favorite CA of all time for hunting DDs. The HE does good damage salvos and fairly reliably sets fires. I like my York, I'll probably sell it, true, but I don't hate it.
